How to recognize a good baselayer

Above all, a baselayer has to do three things. It absorbs sweat and spreads it across the surface of the fabric so that it evaporates quickly instead of staying on your skin. The cut is close-fitting, so skin contact is maintained in the riding position and over several hours, and nothing slips. Flat seams make sure nothing rubs under your jersey and cycling shorts.

Our baselayers at a glance

Not every ride places the same demands on your first layer. Our three models differ in material, sleeve length and intended use, so you'll find the right base for every season.

Baselayer Men: the lightweight base

The Baselayer Men is sleeveless and made from ultralight mesh. It is the lightest of our three models, fits close to the body and moves moisture outwards quickly. This keeps you dry even in warm weather and at high exertion. From around 10 °C, it's your first layer for mild and warm days.

Men's merino baselayer: odor-resistant and soft on the skin

The long-sleeve merino wool baselayer is the right choice when you're out for long rides or several days in a row at temperatures below 10 °C. Merino barely retains odors, so it stays fresh even after many hours in the saddle and can easily be worn several times. The material also keeps you warm when it gets damp and feels soft against the skin. For fall, spring and multi-day tours, the Merino Baselayer is the most versatile layer.

Men's thermal baselayer: the layer for cold days

The Thermal Baselayer relies on synthetic material and is the right choice when temperatures drop below 10 °C and you value fast drying and reliable moisture transport. Its waffle structure traps warm air close to the body, providing extra insulation against the cold. At the same time, the material wicks moisture away from the skin quickly and dries particularly fast, ideal for intense rides in cold conditions.

As a long-sleeve baselayer, it offers extra protection and can easily be worn under a jersey and jacket.

Combining your baselayer

A baselayer forms the foundation of your outfit and is worn under your jersey. On warm days it keeps your body climate comfortable, and in cooler temperatures it adds insulation. If it gets windy or even colder, you can add a vest or another layer to your outfit. If you're looking for a ready-made outfit, you'll find matching combinations in our bundles.

For your partner or girlfriend, there are matching models in our women's baselayer collection.

FAQ about men's baselayers

Yes. A lightweight baselayer can be worn all year round. In summer, it quickly wicks sweat away from the skin and helps you feel pleasantly dry, even at high temperatures.

A baselayer should fit close to the body without feeling restrictive. That way it rests directly on the skin, can reliably wick away moisture and stays in place while you ride.

For the same weight, merino offers pleasant warmth and takes on odors less quickly. Synthetic fibers, on the other hand, dry especially fast and are therefore ideal for intense sessions. Which option suits you better depends on how you use it and your personal preferences.

You should wash your baselayer after longer or sweaty rides. After short, less intense rides, it can be worn two or three times depending on use. Use a mild detergent and avoid fabric softener so the fibers keep their function.

Yes. The close-fitting cut and flat material make the baselayer the ideal base for further layers. You can easily wear a jersey with a vest or jacket on top without any pressure points.
