Why the first layer matters most

A jersey only fits as well as the layer underneath it. A baselayer should absorb and pass on moisture quickly, fit close to the body and be made so that it doesn't press or slip, even after several hours in the saddle.

At a glance: the three women's baselayer models

Depending on the weather, distance and intended use, you need a different base:

  • Baselayer Women: Sleeveless mesh and the lightest of the three models. Ideal for warm days and rides from around 10 °C.
  • Women's Merino Baselayer: Long sleeves made from merino wool that naturally regulate warmth and odor, even when the material gets damp. Ideal for fall, spring and multi-day tours at temperatures below 10 °C.
  • Women's Thermal Baselayer: Long sleeves with an insulating waffle structure that retains heat while staying breathable. Developed for cold days and intense sessions at temperatures below 10 °C.

Merino baselayer or technical fiber?

Merino shows its strengths above all on long tours and in changing conditions. The wool takes on odors only slowly, so the baselayer still feels pleasantly fresh after a long day and can be worn several times on multi-day trips. On top of that comes the soft feel and natural temperature regulation: even when the fiber gets damp, it keeps you warm.

Synthetic fibers, on the other hand, have the edge when it gets cold and you're riding hard at the same time. In the Thermal Baselayer, the waffle structure traps warm air close to the body while moisture can be transported outwards. The material dries quickly and prevents sweat from building up under your other layers during intense sessions.

What goes well with a women's baselayer

The baselayer is usually worn under your jersey and combined with bib shorts. For extra support, our Sports Bra fits underneath. When it's windy, a vest or wind jacket completes the combination, and if you're looking for several pieces at once, you'll find coordinated sets in our bundles.

If you ride with your partner or boyfriend, here's the way to the men's collection.

FAQ about women's baselayers

The baselayer is designed as the first layer under your jersey and is therefore worn directly on the skin. On particularly warm days, a lightweight mesh model can be worn without a jersey, but it's usually combined with a jersey on top.

A wash is recommended after longer or sweaty rides. After short rides, you can usually wear it two or three times, and a merino baselayer copes with this best thanks to the odor-resistant wool. A mild detergent without fabric softener is the gentlest option for the fibers.

Yes. The Sports Bra is worn directly on the skin, with the baselayer on top. Both are designed to work together and lie flat without shifting against each other.

Yes. All our baselayers are cut close to the body and add hardly any bulk under further layers. This means you can wear a baselayer under your jersey and jacket on cold days too, depending on the temperature and your needs.
